PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sets up, adjusts, calibrates and operates x-ray, ultrasonic, eddy current, liquid penetrant and magnetic particle NDE equipment. Detects, interprets and evaluates discontinuities. Performs dimensional and visual inspections on fabricated, machined and purchased items and assemblies for conformance.
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT: Real time x-ray, ultrasonic, liquid penetrant, eddy current, and magnetic particle equipment, spray gun, grinders, overhead crane, personal computer and data storage media, radiation monitoring equipment, measuring instruments including borescopes, hardness testers, micrometers, verniers, calipers, profilometer, coordinated measuring machine, etc. protractor, vacuum tester, leak test, continuity tester, U.T. thickness tester and hand truck.
MATERIALS: Detail parts, sub-assemblies, final assemblies, weldments, castings, forgings, solvents, and other materials associated with NDE and inspection

WORKING PROCEDURE:
- Receives work instructions from supervisor. Processes and inspects parts/materials through NDE and dimensional inspection process in accordance with quality control procedures and acceptance standards.
- Sets up and uses ultrasonic, x-ray, liquid penetrant, magnetic partial and eddy current equipment.
- Utilizes radiation monitoring equipment, establishes and maintains radiation safety area, frequent crane operation.
- Uses a variety of common precision measuring instruments to inspect quality of incoming, in-process and completed items against drawings, production and purchase orders and/or special instructions; inspects designated quality of parts for proper condition such as identify, finish, determining quality of item.
- Accept/rejects parts, prepares material move forms, tags material with proper identification to document the receipt and disposition of material, record data as required.
- May remove minor surface discontinuities for retest and/or rework, as directed by supervison.
- Requires passing eye test for near vision and color discrimination. Also, passing PT-II liquid penetrant, MT-II magnet particle, and Radiographer Level II certification tests as outlined in contract specification and SNT-TC-IA (American Society for Non-Destructive Testing), latest edition.
- Works with minimum supervision on standard or repetitive work; guidance and direction available.
